On December 16, 2024, the School of Law held the Hairan Foundation Academic Lecture Series in the multifunctional classroom of Sanjiang Building. The lecture was specially invited by Lan Yang, Head of iCourt Ai Research Institute and Head of Product Development Department, with the topic of "Opportunities and Challenges for Lawyers in the Age of AI". The lecture was hosted by Fang Xiaoxia, vice dean of the School of Law (School of Discipline and Supervision).
The purpose of this lecture is to let the teachers and students of the School of Law know more about the use and development of artificial intelligence in the legal industry, and better think about how to face the challenges of artificial intelligence in teaching and industry; at the same time, as the end of the year appreciation of the course "Legal Clinic", the leaders of the Intermediate People's Court of Zhenjiang City, the Public Security Bureau of Zhenjiang City, the People's Court of Jingkou District, the Prosecutor's Office of the Economic Development Zone, and a number of law firms and colleagues in the legal field were invited to attend.
Engineer Lan Yang started from the basics of AI technology, and gradually delved into the five major application scenarios of the legal big model: case analysis, contract review, legal counseling, document writing and intelligent paper reading. These application scenarios show how AI technology empowers lawmakers in different segments and enhances their professional quality and practical ability. He introduced in detail how Alpha Intelligent Operating System provides efficient case analysis, contract review and paperwork writing functions for legal people through big data and GPT technology. These functions not only greatly improve the working efficiency of legal people, but also help them make more accurate judgment in complex legal affairs.
Engineer Lan Yang also pointed out that in the era of AI, lawyers need to master three key skills: the ability to analyze data, the proficient use of AI tools, and the ability to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies. These skills are not only necessary to cope with technological changes, but also an important guarantee for lawyers to remain competitive in the fierce market competition.
Through this lecture, the participants gained a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the prospects of AI technology application in the legal field, and further realized that with the continuous development of AI technology, the legal profession will usher in more opportunities and challenges, and will need to continue to learn and progress in order to adapt to the new requirements brought about by this change. In addition, the lecture also explored the ethical and legal issues that need to be considered when applying AI technology in legal practice, such as privacy protection, data security, and algorithmic transparency, which are important topics that must be taken seriously while promoting the application of the technology.
This lecture is the 40th activity of the Hairan Foundation High-end Academic Lecture Series. At present, the School of Law has established an internal and external academic communication platform system consisting of high quality academic platforms such as the Hailan Foundation High-end Academic Lectures, Lutao Sanjiang Law Forum, Bell Reading Book Club, and Academic Salon for Young Teachers.
